Kim Kardashian West has said she is donating $1m (£760,000) to help with relief efforts in Armenia and the disputed region of Nagorno-Karabakh.

The reality star, one of the best known celebrities in the world, is to send the money to the Armenia Fund, which provides humanitarian and infrastructure development in Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh, also known as Artsakh.

Kardashian West, 39, encouraged people to raise awareness or donate to the cause as the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan over the region continues.

In a short video posted to Instagram, she said: “We are not limited by borders. We are one global Armenian nation together.”

“Armenia Fund is directly helping those who have been impacted during this critical time with humanitarian aid from food, shelter and medical care,” she added.

“I’ve been speaking out about the current situation in Armenia and Artsakh and having conversations with so many others to bring further awareness to the crisis that we cannot allow to advance.”

More from Armenia

The Armenian-American, star of Keeping Up With The Kardashians, has urged the US government to take a stronger stance over the conflict.

Kim, her sisters Kourtney, 41, and Khloe, 36, and brother Rob, 33, all have Armenian heritage, as the great-grandparents of their late father Robert Kardashian are from Armenia.

Kourtney and Khloe also posted similar videos on Instagram.

Fans have seen the reality stars head to the country to find out more about their heritage on their reality show.

Fighting is currently taking place in the disputed enclave of Nagorno-Karabakh, which is internationally recognised as part of Azerbaijan, but is home to ethnic Armenians.

It is feared the fighting in the area could lead to a wider regional conflict.
