Neighbours reveals first images of Kylie and Jason back together

Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan can be seen back together as Scott and Charlene for the first time in new images revealed from the final episodes of Neighbours.

The stars are among many returning for the end of the long-running Australian soap, which will air for the last time at the end of July.

In a nod to the clothes often worn by the young Charlene when she worked as a mechanic, Minogue is wearing a denim jumpsuit as she hugs Donovan in the photos on the Neighbours set.

The singer shared a similar picture on her Instagram page with her 2.4 million followers, captioning it: “Now we’re back together” – a nod to the former real-life couple’s duet Especially For You.

Donovan posted a photo of the street sign for Ramsay Street signed by him and his co-star, as well as a snap of the cover of his script, writing: “So good to be back with this absolute legend @kylieminogue.”

Details of the final storyline have been kept under wraps, so it is not yet known how lovebirds Scott and Charlene will return to Ramsay Street.

When it was confirmed in April that Minogue and Donovan, both 54, would reprise their roles from the late 1980s – which saw them get married in one of the most famous weddings in soap history – the internet was sent into a frenzy of nostalgia.

More on Jason Donovan

Their wedding episode was watched by more than two million Australian viewers when it first aired in 1987, and later pulled in an audience of almost 20 million when it was shown in the UK in 1988.

Minogue previously spoke about her “emotional” return to the soap, saying: “I haven’t seen these people in – some of them – for over 30 years.

“And, you know, life passes by and we’ve all gone through different stuff. And just to kind of be face-to-face and say, wow, this is part of our history. It was great.”

She added: “I started acting some years before that, but my kind of big break and I guess how I became a household name was through Neighbours in 1986, so many moons ago.”

The soap opera, which first aired in Australia in 1985 before coming to the UK the following year, will air its final episodes on 29 July after being axed earlier this year.

Channel 5 will broadcast the penultimate episode at its usual times of 1.45pm and 6pm in the UK, with what is promised to be a “gripping and emotional” finale airing in a double-bill special slot at 9pm.

It will be part of a “Neighbours Night” of viewing, which will also include a greatest hits music show, as well as Neighbours: What Happened Next?, which will focus on the stars like Minogue and Donovan who shot to fame following their time in Erinsborough – including Margot Robbie, Guy Pearce and Delta Goodrum.

The show’s executive producer Jason Herbison has previously said that tears were shed after filming finished.

“We all knew this day was coming but until we were here in this moment when the very last scene was filmed, it was hard to express how we would all feel,” he said.

“Of course, it is sad and tears were shed, but we’re also enormously proud. Thirty-seven years is an incredible achievement and that should be celebrated.

“We’ve also been incredibly touched by the response from our viewers all over the world. Neighbours is more than a TV show to many people. They see us as part of the family and we feel privileged to have been invited into their homes, and I know the legacy of Neighbours will live on for many years.”

Neighbours: The Finale airs at 9pm on Friday 29 July. Sob.
