Rishi Sunak’s Rwanda bill has passed a crucial Commons vote on its third reading by a majority of 44.
The Safety of Rwanda Bill – the prime minister’s attempt to save the Rwanda deportation scheme – has divided the Conservatives, with rebels from the right wing of the party unsuccessfully seeking amendments to toughen up the legislation over the past two days.

Senior Conservatives Lee Anderson and Brendan Clarke-Smith resigned their posts as deputy chairmen in order to back the rebels amid the infighting.
But in the end the rebellion fell flat and the unamended bill passed with 320 MPs voting in favour and 276 against.

At the bill’s second reading in December, 37 Conservative MPs did not vote, but none explicitly voted against the legislation.
This time, 11 Conservative MPs voted “no” to the legislation, including Suella Braverman, Robert Jenrick and Simon Clarke, and a further 18 did not vote.
