Rebekah Vardy all smiles ahead of ‘Wagatha Christie’ libel hearing

Rebekah Vardy was looking bright and breezy as she arrived for Dancing On Ice rehearsals, ahead of her High Court libel hearing against Coleen Rooney.

The wife of Premier League footballer Jamie Vardy is suing fellow footballer’s wife Rooney after she claimed Vardy had leaked private stories about her to the press.

Vardy, 38, has always denied any involvement and next week, a High Court judge will decide what it is that Rooney, 34, must prove to successfully defend her case.

Crucially, it must be established whether Rooney was pointing the finger at Vardy personally, or whether she was blaming any user of the account.

The very public fall out between the two former friends was dubbed “war of the wags”, and saw Rooney christened “Wagatha Christie” in response to her private detective skills in her attempts to track down the person responsible for leaking her social media posts.

Rooney had claimed she had set the privacy settings to ensure the stories were only visible to one account, which belonged to Vardy.

She said the posts which she set to be only viewable by Vardy’s account were fake, including that she had been considering gender selection in order to have a baby girl. These stories were written about by some newspapers.

At the time of the accusation, Vardy insisted that “various people” had access to her Instagram account.

The mum-of-five, who was seven-months pregnant at the time the claims were made, later said the stress of the public row had caused her to have severe anxiety attacks.

Away from the forthcoming trial, Vardy is now preparing to appear on next year’s Dancing On Ice, hosted by Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby.

She has said she’s looking forward to “the sequins and full glam” but doesn’t have too much faith in her dancing skills admitting “I just think I want everyone to laugh at me”.

Other stars who will appear on the ITV show include presenter Myleene Klass, actress Denise Van Outen and former Olympic skier Graham Bell.

Judges include former Olympic world champions Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean, and performers John Barrowman and Ashley Banjo.

Vardy has already had a brush with reality TV, having appeared on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! in 2017, but was the third celebrity to be eliminated.

The thirteenth series of Dancing On Ice starts in January 2021.

Vardy’s High Court libel hearing will take place in central London next Thursday.
